TELL ME HOW GOOD I AM?
‘I used to go to my harp lessons and then come home and play on my own in my living room. There wasn’t much incentive to improve until my harp teacher sent my audition tapes to different professional bodies. A few years later I was invited to play in the World Harp Congress in Vienna ….. I hope our young harpists today will be able to receive professional recognition throughout the different stages of their harp learning experience’
Angela Yau
(Angela was one of the first generation local harpists in Hong Kong. She was the Principal Harpist with the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Academy Orchestra, and the Solo Harpist for Harp Concerto with the Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra. She has also performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Chinese Symphony Orchestra)
Honorary Advisor of the
Hong Kong Harp Chamber
LOTE – League of the Elite Award
Twice a year, the Hong Kong Harp Chamber will organize a LOTE award in two categories:
| 1. Performance-based |
2. Commitment-based |
| Gold Prize |
- Harmony Prize |
| Silver Prize |
|
| Bronze Prize |
|
The award audition is modeled from elite music schools’ admission audition procedures (such as Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music). A panel of judges will make their selection not only from an academic angle looking for technical proficiency (for Gold/Silver/Bronze Prizes), but also from a community angle to reward hard work and enthusiasm (for Harmony Prize).
There is no fixed number of award winners. However, all awards are based on absolute (not relative) measures of proficiency expected from the respective profile of the candidates. Award winners will receive a certificate signed by the judges and a token gift presented by the Chamber.
Panel of Judges
For each award selection, the Chamber will invite a panel of judges. The panel will include local and overseas teachers, professional harpists, harp makers and/or friends of the music community.
The next LOTE award will be judged by:
Moya Wright (Former Principal Harpist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Director of Lyon & Healy Harps, Executive Director of the Victor Salvi Foundation, Executive Director of the USA International Harp Competition)
Dusty Strings (The most renowned lever harp maker, whose harps are frequently featured in many harp records in the music industry)

The LOTE is open to harpists of any age and level.
A registration fee of HK$200 applies for applicants who provide a digital format of their performance for audition (e.g. in DVD, SD or Multimedia Cards). An additional administration fee of $800 will be charged for applicants who request the Chamber to arrange for a recording.
